Physical / material description
• Top ring (1.2 mm): thin compression ring, typically made from ductile cast iron or steel, often with a low‑friction coating (molybdenum or nitriding/chrome plating) to improve wear resistance and reduce friction. Marked “TOP” or with a dot/face indicating orientation.
• Second ring (1.5 mm): heavier compression/scraper ring, usually cast iron or steel; may be tapered or stepped in face profile to assist oil control and secondary compression sealing.
• Oil ring (2.5 mm): standard three‑piece design — spring/expander in the middle with two thin steel rails (upper and lower). Rails are usually carbon or chrome plated steel; expander is spring steel. Designed to wipe oil from cylinder wall and meter oil to the crankcase.
